DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
LIQUID VINYL is a spin off of "Elixir," a narrative feature film that I had co-written, developed and optioned to three separate production companies over a span of six years. I didn't want to make this film. I was in the midst of a painful divorce to a DJ and the last thing I wanted to do was make a documentary about DJs. But the opportunity arose and I knew better than to say no.
I was driven to complete this project by my own euphoric experiences in dance clubs. Dancing underneath the mirrored balls into the dawn at the fingertips of my favorite DJ. I felt free, uninhibited, joyful, happy…
"It's not just another night out shaking your ass. It's an experience that you're just going to talk about for the rest of your life." D:Fuse – "Liquid Vinyl"
I could not have made this film without George Reasner (DP and Producer) who said to me, "We need to make this film" after we had lost all of our financing; Chris W. Hill (Editor and Graphic Design Artist) who believed in our vision and never stopped believing in us; our amazing cast of DJs, industry professionals and my ex-husband, DJ Mark Lewis (Co producer) who always said yes to all of my requests.
